In honor of the late UNFPA Executive Director, Dr. Babatunde Osotimehin’ s legacy, the UN family in Swaziland joined the rest of the world on 07th June 2017 to pay tribute to his lifelong service dedicated to safeguarding the human rights and dignity of everyone.

Speaking at the tribute event, UNFPA Representative, Sharareh Amirkhalili stated that Dr. Babatunde Osotimehin is remembered as an inspiring and visionary global leader and a world champion for the human rights of the disadvantaged particularly adolescent girls and women.

“Dr Babatunde’s inspiring and vigorous leadership positioned health and rights of women and girls high on the global development agenda and as many of you have rightly mentioned in your kind messages of condolences and solidarity, the global community, international community and Africa in particular has lost a great leader in his passing,” she remarked.

On behalf of the UNFPA Country Office, Ms Amirkhalili pledged to keep Dr Osotimehin’ s legacy alive by continuing to work harder to ensure that the young people of Swaziland, especially adolescent girls, are well positioned to reach their fullest potential.   She thanked all of the UN Swaziland family for remaining solidly with UNFPA Swaziland in carrying on Dr Babatunde’s grand vision.  She further informed that a condolence book has been opened for signing and it will be available for one week, i.e. 7th - 14th June, 2017.
